Richard “Rick” Todd Konkler, 72, passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2026, at the University of MN Hospital surrounded by his family, who he loved and who deeply loved him. Rick will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Pat; and sons, Josh (Renee), Aaron, and Nathan; grandchildren; Evelyn, Wyatt, and Owen; canine companions, Yogi and Finn; sisters, Amy (Dan) Shaleen and Beth (Mark) Ulman; stepmother, Janice Konkler; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, James and Wilma; and brother, James Konkler Jr.
Rick graduated from Dunwoody and worked in sales in the construction supply industry. He spent much of his career working for Brock White and concluded his working years with Simplex Construction Supplies Inc. He was a past president of Minneapolis Builders Exchange, where he was active for many years.
Outside of work and after retiring, he loved the outdoors whether it was walking his dogs, hunting upland game (especially pheasants), or his real passion which was training his dog for hunt tests and field trials with his friends on a regular basis. Those who knew Rick will remember his steady presence, unmistakable wit, and sarcastic quips.
Rick also enjoyed traveling with Pat and the boys to warm destinations in the winter, creating lasting memories. They shared many adventures and laughs in their travels that will long be remembered like the unplanned detours because he refused to stop and ask for directions.
Rick’s greatest pride was his family. He celebrated their successes and supported them through their challenges. He was a devoted father and grandfather who attended all their sporting events which included soccer, football, basketball and hockey and was frequently the family chauffeur for many of his sons and grandkids' practices.
Rick leaves a legacy of family, gratitude, laughter, and appreciation for the simple moments that matter most. He will be deeply missed, but the love he shared and the example he set will remain with those who knew him best.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Gearhart Funeral Home, 11275 Foley Blvd NW, Coon Rapids MN 55448, with visitation at 10:00am followed by the service at 11:00am.
