Robert “Bob” Francis Almeida, 79, of Andover, Minnesota played his last hand on Dec. 13, 2018. Bob enjoyed the thrill of betting the odds. Being the stubborn Portuguese man he was, he kept trying to beat them till the end.
Bob was born January 16, 1939 in Middletown, Rhode Island. He grew up there until joining the Air Force at 18. He did 2 tours in Vietnam and stayed in the Air Force serving his country for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sargent. From there he became a realtor and later a contractor which he enjoyed most. He was a craftsman at heart.
Bob loved his family, his Portuguese heritage, and football. Especially his Cowboys! He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and time with family. You knew he loved you when he would try to rattle your cage and you saw the monkey business in his eyes!
He was a hard-working man, working right up till his final days. He left his 3 girls telling them he loved them equally, but each of them knows whom he loved best! He had many peaceful hours before passing to spend with his beloved wife, Shelley. In his own words, he had a great life, wonderful family, and was a lucky man.
The doctors called him an anomaly; defined as something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected. There is no word better to describe the man we were fortunate to call Brother, Husband, Dad, and Grandpa.
Preceded in death by his Parents, Manuel Almeida and Sarah Lopes Almeida; Sisters, Helen Arsenault and Irene Oliveira; and Brothers, Charles Almeida and Alfred Almeida.
He is remembered with love and laughter by his Wife, Shelley; Sister, Josephine Lyga; Daughters from his first marriage (Carol Almeida), Robin (Ray, Paige and Roxanne) Reinfeld, Renee (Steve) Beckmen, and Allyson (Fred and Cooper) Thomson; Step-children, Ryan (Katie, Raina and Beau) Bloomstrom, Cassie (Jordan, Logan, Mikayla, Lexi, and Dustyn) Bloomstrom, and his cat, Sunshine.
In lieu of flowers, please do a random act of kindness and pray his Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl this year! (Anything is possible!)
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Mercy hospital.
