Shirley was born on November 17th, 1935, in Mahnomen, MN to Frances Donnell and grew up with a deep love for family, faith, and community. She married the love of her life, Leo Hagen, in 1956, and together they shared 62 wonderful years filled with laughter and love.
Shirley was known for her warmth, generous spirit, and for making everyone around her feel welcome. She touched the lives of countless students and colleagues during her 20 years working as the lunch lady at Eisenhower Elementary in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, always spreading kindness and friendliness. She also volunteered with the SGT John Rice VFW Post 6316 Auxiliary in Blaine, MN, where she helped serve food at funeral luncheons and holiday events. Shirley and Leo were also longtime members and volunteers with the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers and were named king and queen of their annual event in 2018.
She is survived by her sister Carolyn Blaser (David) of Sibley, ND, her brother Earl Donnell of McGregor, MN; her daughter Joanne Hoska (Mike) of Lexington, MN; her sons Durk (Sandra) of Andover, MN and Scott of Blaine, MN; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
She is preceded in death by husband Leo, mother Frances Donnell (née Kirsch), grandson Joe Hagen, sister Darlene Paul, and brother Dick Donnell.
Memorial services will be held Friday, December 19th at Gearhart Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, MN, with visitation at 10:00 AM and funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Morningside Memorial Gardens. A private luncheon will take place after the interment (by invitation).
