Dear Mr. and Mrs. Church, Stephanie accompanied Dr. Jose Vega, six UWRF students and me to Kenya on a Study Abroad Teaching Experience in 2009. Dr. Vega and I were very impressed with her charitable and caring heart, her academic talent, her love working with children, and the excitement she brought to novel experiences. As much as she enjoyed her slum children and colleagues in Nairobi, they appreciated her equally. Upon hearing of her passing,a few of her Kenyan co-workers asked me to share their thoughts with you:
~This is one young lady I won't forget. She did so much when she was in Kenya. May God rest her soul.
~Death! Why have we just lost one of our colleagues in the USA by the name of Stephanie Church, a humble and hard working girl who came to Kenya a few years ago! We had good times, she is no longer. Death, why?
~Our prayers are with her family. She was a humble and gifted young lady.
As faculty, our hearts are heavy as we remember your beautiful daughter, surrounded by little Kenyan children, many of whom had never seen a white person in their life, having a positive and memorable educational experience with Stephanie,her eyes sparkling and her face joyous doing what she loved best. She touched the lives of many in the slums of Nairobi in a positive way, made happy memories teaching, and made the world a little better place as a result. Stephanie worked with our 16 year old son and he absolutely loved her and so did we! Our hearts go out to her family, friends, clients and co-workers...we will miss her dearly.  She had such a great spirit and seemed to love life.  Our son always enjoyed his sessions with her and we appreciated all her work.  We will miss your great smile, Stephanie.

Dear Paul, Pete and Margaret,
I was so sad to hear of your loss.  From reading all of these beautiful tributes I know special Stephanie was and how her blessings touched so many. Please know that my prayers are with you as we all struggle to understsand God's plan. May the love of your family and friends help support you through this tragedy.

To the Church family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss.  My son, Cody, knew Stephanie.  I met Stephanie two or three times.  She was a delightful young woman.  She was very cheerful and polite and I enjoyed knowing her, even if it was just a little bit.  Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Hope it helps you to know you are in the thoughts and peayers of many who care about you.  Sad this happened to anyone let alone wonderful people like you.  You were all fortunate to have been blessed with the years you had together.  Peace be with you and Stephanie.

Every thing I heard about her was positive, which I took for granted just because of who her parents were.  I know that she is in a much better place than we are now, but that doesn't make the hurt go away for those who love her and miss her daily or weekly presence in their lives.  I hope the memories shared between family and friends make the pain easier to bear.  May God's peace be with each one of you.

I have fond memories of her as she was growing up and all the baby sitting, the cars there as she grew older, leaving for college.  Please know I still  care about you even if I don't live there anymore.  You don't get rid of your old friends, they won't let you.

While I know that my story is similar to those who Stephanie helped, I wanted to share it with you anyways.  I felt a very strong connection with Miss Stephanie.  I trusted her with my child the first moment I dropped him off.  He loved spending time with Miss Steph, even his younger brother Ben would come along and get to spend some time with Steph even though he wasn't in speech.  Miss Stephanie took the time to talk and interact with the little one.  Tucker looked forward to his Thursdays; he knew that if he just made it through the day that he would get to see Miss Stephanie and his day would be “THE BEST DAY EVER”, that is what he would call it.
I am a Christian, so I know that Steph is in a better place with our Lord and Savior, however, I feel like my child will be lost without her.  My mother then reminded me of this.  Although she was in his life a short time, I was blessed as were my children to have spent that time with her.  She made us better people, and gave me a reason to drive to Isanti on Thursdays and smile.
We loved Miss Stephanie; please find comfort in the knowledge that she made so many of us WANT to be better people, simply for the fact that she was better.  She has touched my heart in ways I could never imagine and she will be dearly missed.  My prayers and heartfelt wishes go out to you and your family.  But thank you, thank you for that gift that you brought to us.
