Mr. West was born in Brooklyn to his parents, the late Walter and Margaret. He served proudly, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During his professional years, he was a supervisor in the Commercial Plumbing industry; from which he is now retired.
Mr. West gave of himself entirely to the Boy Scouts of America, as he was proud of over 60 years of service as Scoutmaster to troops in the city. His brother, Arthur, tells of how after Alvin dealt with serious health issues, he still rallied himself to get on the Long Island Rail Road with backpack and briefcase in hand to travel into the city to mentor young men in Scouting. Up until his death, Alvin continued to stay as active as possible.
Surviving are his two brothers - Lee and his wife, Anna of Florida; and Arthur and his wife, Margaret of Copiague. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews - Robert, Noelle, Sharon, Michael, Jr., Richard, Theresa, John, Patricia and Patrick; and a host of grandnieces and nephews. Predeceasing him, in addition to his parents, are his brothers Walter (and late wife Analise), and Michael (and his late wife, Ann).
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations and remembrances be sent in Alvin's memory to the Boy Scouts of America.
