James E. Gordon, of Lindenhurst, L.I., died on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the age of 65 years.

Jim or Jimmy, as he was known to those who love him, was born in Amityville to his late parents, William and Margaret (nee Wenzel) Gordon. He was raised in Copiague, attending Copiague schools; graduating from St. John the Baptist High School in 1974.

Jim joined the Copiague Fire Department Hook Ladder & Rescue Co. in 1973, climbing the ranks to the office of Chief, and later as Commissioner. He served the Department for 45 years. During his tenure, he was well-known for his cooking, especially his signature chili and chicken marsala.

Jim became a respiratory therapist some time after high school and in 1983 while working at Brunswick Hospital in Amityville he met his future bride, the former Jean Traina. Jim later served at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, where he spent most of his career and helped start the pulmonary rehab program that is there today. He and Jean married in 1986 and moved into the home of his parents in Lindenhurst, and here is where they raised their own family. In addition to his dedication as a husband, father and firefighter, he enjoyed playing golf, watching football, readings and country/folk music.

Surviving is his beloved family – his wife, Jean; his sons – Daniel and Douglas; his sister, Christine (Thomas) Ferris; his brother, Robert (Misty) Gordon; and his cherished furbabies, Maggie, Sunny, Lily and Tank.

Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13th, at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:30 and 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, September 14th at 9:45 a.m. at Maria Regina R.C. Jim is my cousin. I always thought of Jim as a director. As a kid I would visit with his family. Jim his brother Rob and myself would go around looking for adventure and Jim would lead the way. Even then he was showing his leadership skills. Lets do this. Lets do that. Good fun. Later on in life he would show his skills as a Therapist, Fire Cheif, Father and Husband. As we started our familys Jim and family would come to our house and vice versa. When our daughter Kate was born we showed her to Jim. He said that's tannest baby I've ever seen. We took Kate to the emergency room. Her billyruben was very high due to a release error. It could have been much worse but thanks to Jim she's fine. R.I.P. Jim. Your an angel now. 😔
