With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Henry Kochanski, who left us too soon on April 16, 2025, at the age of 54. Born and raised in Lindenhurst, New York, John was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth, laughter, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
John was the cherished son of Frances Kochanski and the late Donald Kochanski. He was a proud and devoted father to Danielle (Justin) and Donald (Jessica), and an adoring grandfather to Joseph, Arielle, Grayson, and Carson, who were the lights of his life. He shared a special bond with his goddaughter, Brianna Sheridan, and was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his sister, Tara Rubino, with whom he shared countless memories and a lifelong sibling bond.
A longtime member of the Copiague Fire Department, John found purpose and camaraderie in serving his community. Whether responding to a call or simply lending a hand, he did so with heart and humility.
John had a passion for the simple joys in life—cooking for family and friends, fishing on peaceful mornings, and rooting for his favorite team, the New York Yankees. His meals were made with love, his stories were shared with laughter, and his loyalty to those he cared about never wavered. Above all, John cherished the companionship of his beloved dog, Colby, who was never far from his side.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at D’Andrea Bros. Funeral Home from 2:00–4:30 PM and again from 7:00–9:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in his honor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Lindenhurst, NY on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY.
John will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him.
