Lawrence Fontana, long-time resident of Lindenhurst, died suddenly on Tuesday morning, December 4th. He was 86 years old. Larry, as he was affectionately known to all - was a man beloved by all. Known by many for his dedication to the Loyal Order of the Moose; was a man bound to three things in his life - his family, the Moose Lodge and his community. Larry was born right here in Copiague at his family's home on Galvani Street. While growing up, his sister hired a babysitter, a young woman named Mary Mulqueen whose family hailed from the Bronx. Love blossomed, and just this year, Mary and Larry celebrated 63 years of marriage. Together they raised their family of four children, and today, are blessed with four grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He began his years of work as a young man working for a German Grocer in Jamaica, and then as an Usher for the Lindenhurst movie theatre. He found his career with Grumman' Aerospace of Bethpage; and retired after 44 years of service, as Lead Foreman for Plants 2 and 3 on the night shift.

A Charter Member and Founder of the Moose Lodge #1421 of Lindenhurst, over the years Larry chaired Bingo, ran the Tax Raffle, and was instrumental in obtaining the first mortgage for the Lodge. Just this past month, following the damage of Hurricane Sandy, Larry went out, bought lunch and delivered it to the Lodge for the crews working on rebuilding the damage to the building.

Through his work within the Moose, Larry also became involved within the community working with numerous local officials on various efforts including the local DARE Program. Mary recalled Larry's love for spending his time at home with family. Mary and Larry would enjoy evenings at home just reminiscing, and playing poker.

Mary regaled the friends that Larry made - in life, work and in the political arena. Larry had many friends, one of which was childhood friend Senator Owen Johnson.

In addition to his beloved Mary; Larry leaves his four children – Larry Jr., Mark and his wife Jeannie, Keith and Annette; his four grandchildren - Emily Fontana, Jennifer Daugherty and her husband, Gavin; Joseph Murphy and Jacqueline Murphy; and his great-grandson, Emmerson Daughtery. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Caroline; and his brothers and sisters - Julio, Pete, Frank, Dominick, Virginia, Rose and Mary. As the youngest of the family, Larry had the nickname of "Babe". The Moose Lodge will offer a service at the funeral home on both Thursday and Friday evening. On Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., family and friends will gather for a prayer service, and then process to Breslau Cemetery. Mary summarized Larry's gift - "A love of life, A love of people"
