Maria was born in her hometown of Licata, Italy to her late parents, Angelo and Carmela. Maria worked for many years for Del Labs in Farmingdale, but also had a wonderful talent for sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, especially in beading and embroidering. Her children regaled stories of the love their mom had for helping others at all times, as she was there for whenever, and for whomever needed her. Maria loved to cook, and she thrived while jarring and canning the bounty from her indoor and outdoor vegetable gardens.
She and her dear friends used to meet together to attend the 7:45 AM Sunday Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption where the group was affectionately known as "the Sisters".
Surviving is her beloved family - her children - Isabella Fitzpatrick and her son-in-law, Kevin; and Angelo and her daughter-in-law, Tanya; her grandchildren - James (Maleny) Fitzpatrick, Kimberly (Robert) Steinkopf, Brianna Fitzpatrick, Tiffany Licata, Frank Licata and Angelo Licata; and her sister, Carmelina. Maria is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Rosa and her brother, Carmelo.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday, December 21st from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. During the visitation hours, Deacon Phil Mills will offer the Wake Service at 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday morning, the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Maria's name to Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
