Mariano (Mario) Reyes was born in Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana on April 30th, 1936. He was the second oldest of 16 children born to the late Agustin Reyes and Paula Perez. In January of 1959, he met his life long partner and wife, Gladys America Perez from Santiago, Republica Dominicana. They later married and had seven children.

Mario was a proud, dignified, serious, fearless, bright and hard-working person. He strongly believed in himself and his abilities to achieve whatever he strived for. His long-term goal was to move to the USA to seek better opportunities for his family and eventually buy a home. In 1963, Mario was able to secure employment as a professional baker, in the USA through a contact of his mothers and emigrated soon there after. He baked breads and cakes throughout his life and worked at various bakeries in New York City. In 1979, he was successful in purchasing a home for his family in Massapequa, New York. Mario retired from Entenmann's baking company with a stellar hard-working reputation at the age of 62.

Mario received his education in the Dominican Republic, joined the military as a very young man and played in the band, as his love for music and (especially Merengue) led him to professionally study the trumpet at an early age. Mario's favorite pastime was baseball and his music. Later he became a U.S. citizen, shortened his name to Mario, continued his music education in New York City and enjoyed a long side career playing lead trumpet for various bands both in the Dominican Republic and USA until he became ill in 1998. He was known as a Latin musician, he played lead trumpet and at times wrote music. While he was more serious in nature he very much enjoyed working in dance clubs playing his trumpet and could also shake a mean leg!

Mario fought a good fight against his health problems, always impressing his doctors with his strength and resilience, and eventually succumbed to the Lord and closed his eyes after a 12 year battle. His love and memories will live on through his wife, all of his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and very close friends. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed!

He is survived by his wife, Gladys America Perez de Reyes; seven children, Flavia (Jerome Bost) Reyes, Benny (Nurys) Reyes, Seris Margarita (Michael) Jennings, Rosa Mariana (Michael) Morales, Candida Natalia (John) Vogt, Abraham Reyes and Moises Reyes; Grandchildren, Lisa, Theresa, Donato James, Nicole, Robert, Jade, Emily, Madison and Ayden; adopted Grandchildren, Anthony, Ruben, Yordin, Manuel, Alenny, Nasir, Nurys and Autumn; his brothers Pedro (Carmen) Reyes, Ramon (Maria) Perez, Roberto Perez, Francisco Andujar and Jose Andujar; his sister Josefina Pena; and a plethora of beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and associates.
