

Mr. Stegenga was born in Meridian, Mississippi to his late parents, Martin and Joyce. At his death he was retired from his career in Computer Technology at National Westminster Bank in Melville. His wife, Anna, noted that Gene had a knack and passion for mathematics; which he worked at daily during his working years with NatWest. Gene and Anna were avid lovers of the outdoors. When they met, they found mutual enjoyment in walks in nature, kayaking and boating.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Anna H. (nee Zink); his daughters, Pam McMillan and Amanda Hunter; his grandchildren - Suzannah Smith and her husband, Steven; Ryan McMillan, Samantha McMillan, Madison Hunter, and Emma Hunter; his great-grandchildren, Sawyer Smith and Amelie Smith; his sister, Debra Stegenga; and his brother and sister-in-law, Frank Zink and Ethel Zink (wife of the late Willliam). Also surviving are twenty-five nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, predeceasing him are his brothers and sisters-in-law - Lucille Emery and her husband, Clarence; Joseph Zink and his wife Linda; Robert Zink and his wife Adrienne; Edward Zink and his wife, Lorraine; William Zink; Bernard Zink and his wife Dolores; and Florence Schraidt and her husband, Otto.
Family and friends will gather at the D'Andrea Bros.Funeral Home in Copiague, Long Island, NY. on Sunday, December 18th, from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. On Monday, December 19th, a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church in Copiague. Interment will follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
