It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Waidler who departed this life on September 12, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born on October 2, 1950, in Copiague, Bob graduated from Copiague High School and went on to serve in the military during the Vietnam War. He pursued a life-long career with the Long Island Rail Road as a Signalman and General Chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and retired in 2002.
Bob was a vital member of his South Shore community. He respected and honored his friends and colleagues through his continuous charity work. Whether it was marching in town parades, volunteering at his church and nursing homes, or lending a hand wherever needed, Bob was always on the go. He loved visiting his children and grandchildren who lived out of state, traveling the world with his wife Barbara of 27 years, and, if there was time in between, there was always a golf course he’d find himself at with his “Moes.”
It would be safe to say that the one consistent time Bob would sit down, it would be at a Yankee game at the stadium—or with a ball and a bat on the couch, watching his Yankees on TV.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Waidler; his children, Trisha (Kevin), Bobby (Antonella), and Jimmy (Kelly); his stepchildren, Deborah, John (Angela), and Barbara Jean (Brandon); his 17 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Robert Waidler, and his siblings Billy and Joan. He is survived by his sister Nancy.
Bob’s warmth, humor, and dedication to family and community will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A visitation will be held at D'Andrea Bros. Funeral Home, located at 99 Oak Street, Copiague, NY 11726, on September 16, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A mass will take place at Our Lady of Assumption Church, located at 1 Molloy St, Copiague, NY 11726, on September 17, 2025, from 9:45 am to 10:45 am.
