Vinnie was born to his parents, Anthony and Kathleen, in Corona, New York. He grew up in Corona, and graduated from Regis High School, a private Jesuit scholarship school. He graduated from St. Peter’s College and in 1960 returned to Regis High School to teach. While at Regis, Vinnie also shared his teaching skills in English and Math with young children of immigrant parents from the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The educational program that Vinnie developed for these children of immigrants soon evolved into the Nativity Mission Center of the Lower East Side and today has branches throughout the United States. In 1964, Vinnie found a passion for law, and attended Fordham Law School, graduating in 1966. Vinnie met his wife, Carol Ann, on a blind date and they married in 1972. They made their home in Lindenhurst, where they raised their twins, Juliann and Vincent J. CarolAnn passed in 1987. Vinnie met his second love, Patricia Filiberto, through the profession they share in common – Attorneys at Law. Together for 28 years, Vinnie and Pat have shared a love of the law and a strong commitment to organized bar association.
During his 50-year legal career, Vinnie has worked as the Chief of the Appeals Bureau in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, as a partner in the law firm Sullivan, Spota, Malito & O’Rourke, and Principal Law Clerk to Supreme Court Justice Patrick Henry. Throughout his career, Vinnie has served the organized bar. He was a Past President of the Suffolk County Bar Association, a Past President of the Suffolk County Columbian Lawyers Association and a Past President of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of the Fordham Law Alumni Association. Of the many committees on which he served, Vinnie was most proud to have served as a member of the Tenth Judicial District Grievance Committee and the House of Delegates to the New York State Bar Association. He has received numerous accolades and awards. He was most proud to have received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2003 from the Fordham Law School Alumni Association, Nassau/Suffolk Chapter.
When he had downtime, Vinnie truly enjoyed cooking and creating unusual pasta dishes. His children describe him as a father who always opened his home to their friends and gave all the twins’ friends a place to “hangout”.
