Virginia was born in Brooklyn to her late parents, Francis and Ruth Armstrong. She met her husband, Jack, in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn. They married on November 28, 1959. They made their first home in Gerritsen Beach, then moved to Copiague in 1967. Virginia worked for the Copiague Public Schools. While they both became devoted parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Virginia was a member of the Rosary Altar Society as well a member of the Choir. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, especially known for her Christmas cookies, and was a loyal Mets fan; but all her family will say that her greatest pastime was found in the love of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Cole is survived by her beloved husband, Jack; her children - son, Jack and daughter-in-law, Theresa; daughter, Karen Cole; and daughter Kathy Gentile and son-in-law, Vinny; and her grandchildren - John Cole, Frank Cole (Dianna), Thomas Cole, Liam Cole, Vincent Gentile and Timothy Gentile. Also surviving are her great-granddaughters, Layla and soon-to-be-welcomed Everleigh Ginna; her sisters - Florence (Edward) Verneuille and Frances Hanley; and many beloved nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Patti.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 18th, from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. On Thursday, a Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church in Copiague at 9:45 a.m. Private Cremation will follow.
