Albert Edwin Jarrell Sr.

December 13, 1935January 22, 2018

Services celebrating the life of Albert Edwin Jarrell Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, TX 75063. He died on January 22, 2018, at the age of 82 at Plano Baylor Heart Hospital. Mr. Jarrell was a well-known Irving community leader and volunteer. He was District Manager of TU Electric (formerly Texas Power & Light). After a stint with TP&L in Mineral Wells, TX he transferred back to Irving as District Manager in 1977 with his beloved wife, Florence, and here they raised a family of two sons and a daughter. Al retired from TU in 1992 after 34 years of service. In addition to managing a growing company, Al contributed many hours as a volunteer. He served as president of the Irving Chamber of Commerce, and on The Irving Hospital Board. He was also active in Boy Scouts of America (one of his favorites), the Irving Rotary Club, the Irving Economic Development Foundation, and numerous other organizations. Unsuited for a life of early retirement, he returned to the work world as a Nationwide Insurance agent in Irving, TX, retiring a second time in 2010. Al was born to Richard P. Jarrell and Dovie Mae Beaird on December 13, 1935. He graduated from Sherman High School, Class of ’54, where he played football and ran track. Al went on to earn his college degree from Austin College, Class of ’58, in Sherman, TX before joining Texas Power & Light. He served in the Naval Reserves from 1958-1962. Al was an avid hunter and golfer. He met Florence on a blind date and they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Al is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Albert Jarrell Jr. and wife Denise; son, Jim Jarrell and wife Heather; daughter Marion Greer and husband Jeff, and seven grandchildren: Jackson Greer, Jared Greer, Mallory Greer, Gentry Jarrell, Hollis Jarrell, Lauren Jarrell and Lindsey Jarrell. He is also survived by his brother Richard P. Jarrell. His sister Marion Torbert predeceased him. Following the church service, a private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Irving Bible Church (www.irvingbible.org), Dallas Theological Seminary (www.dts.edu) or the Histiocytosis Association (www.histio.org).

Al was a good man who always cared for other people. I worked with him at TP&L when he was in Mineral Wells and served as his Administrative Manager in the Irving District for three years. He was a dedicated volunteer in support of the Irving community. Florence, I know you and the children with miss him dearly.

Always kind and friendly to everyone.
Albert was a special friend and classmate in the SHS Class of 1954. We will miss his smile and support of our class. Blessings to his family.

Cousin Albert was so in love with family -- his own, mine, everyone's. He was always interested in our news through the years. I know the most about him through my mother, his cousin nicknamed "Didgie." She would tell us funny stories of Albert and his brother and sister Richard and Marion. Whenever we were together or talked by phone, we Colorado cousins loved that beautiful Southern drawl of theirs. Albert was a talented, genuine writer. Mom showed me some letters he sent her later in life. It is sad to know he isn't still "a few states away," loving his wonderful life. The Hearnes send warmest hugs to Florence and their children.
