It is with love and deep sorrow that we share the passing of Bruce R. Bourbon, who left us on January 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Bruce was a man of integrity, brilliance, and generosity—an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than six decades, Marilyn LaVerne Sears Bourbon, his lifelong partner and best friend. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and innumerable memories they will forever cherish. Bruce was a devoted father to Brett, Melissa, and Matthew, and a proud grandfather to Paskalina and Georgina Bourbon; Alex, Samuel, Jared, Sophie, and Caleb Ramirez; and Liet, Sebastian, and Oliver Bourbon. His sister, Judy Bourbon Dewey, and his niece and nephew, Karey Manor and Ken Alan, also carry forward his legacy of intellect, kindness, and devotion to family.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert and Winifred Conrath Bourbon, Bruce spent his formative years in Arcadia, California, where he graduated from Monrovia High School. It was there that he met Marilyn, the love of his life, whom he married in 1962. His passion for learning and problem-solving led him to earn a BS in Electrical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.
Bruce’s professional journey followed a steep and remarkable trajectory. While his career began in engineering, his sharp mind and visionary leadership quickly propelled him into executive roles. He served in many capacities, from an independent management consultant, Vice President of Marketing at Toshiba America, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Vertex Semiconductor to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Theta Microelectronics, Inc. and finally, as founder of Telos Venture Partners where he helped shape the future of innovative companies. His wisdom, drive, and mentorship left a lasting impact on colleagues and aspiring entrepreneurs alike.
While he loved his work beyond measure, he also had a zest for learning and life. He had a deep interest in golf and photography and a love of fine wine and meaningful conversation. Above all, he loved his family. In his later years, his greatest joy was spending time with the people he loved, sharing stories, ideas, and laughter.
Bruce’s legacy is truly one of love, dedication, and inspiration. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of his life will be held at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home on February 3, 2025, where friends and family will gather together to honor him. Bruce’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of everyone who loves him.
