David Michael Thomas

David Michael Thomas, 74, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 7, 2026, following a long battle with a devastating illness that took his voice and mobility, but never his spirit. He is now at peace with God.

David was born January 7, 1952, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to CD and Mary Thomas. He grew up in the Piney Woods of East Texas, where friends and family knew him by the nickname "Rusty." He later earned the nickname "Bubba" from his grandchildren, a name that stuck for the rest of his life.

David graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, where he met Melinda, his wife of 47 years. Together they raised their family in Coppell, Texas, from 1984 to 2004, before later moving to Athens, Texas.

David built an ambitious and successful career until his illness forced him to retire. But his proudest achievement was always his family. He was dedicated to raising his children to be resilient, compassionate, and faith-driven, and he took great joy in watching his grandchildren grow up in that same image. Just behind his love for his family was his love for a good Dairy Queen Blizzard, an ice-cold Dr. Pepper, and the music of his generation. David never lost his sense of humor or his playful, silly side, even as he pursued his career with drive and determination.

David's legacy is not defined by the disease that took his voice and mobility. It is defined by the family he leaves behind — children who have built successful careers and given generously of their time to philanthropy, and grandchildren being raised to be just as strong.

David is survived by his former wife, Melinda Thomas; his children, Katy and David Ramsey and Kyle and Lindsay Thomas; his grandchildren, Ava, Madeline, Wyatt, and Ingrid; and his brother, Richard Thomas.

A memorial service will be held on September 14, 2026 at 2:00pm, at White's Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake, Texas. David will be laid to rest at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center in Coppell, Texas — the community where he raised his family for two decades.
