Lieutenant Colonel Derrick Alwin Curtis, USAF, Ret., passed away on January 30, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on Sunday, September 27, 1942 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to the late Rev. Wilson A. Curtis and Geneva B. Curtis (née Pollard). He was the beloved husband of Yoni K. Williams, his wife of twenty-eight years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a golf fanatic with a deep love for dogs and horses. He is survived by his wife, Yoni; three daughters, Susan Patton and her husband Kelly, Sandy Geyer and her husband Eric, and Samantha Williams; two granddaughters, Misty Links and her husband Greg, and Ashley Gann; five great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Lilly, Lawson, Elizabeth and Christopher; and sister Laurann and her husband Roberto Diaz Soria. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, Texas. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to TracysDogs dog rescue (www.tracysdogs.com) or to the American Heart Association.

Derick was always smiling and laughing while sharing the latest corny joke and attempting to muzzle the canine beast Sofie at the same time. Sharing many rounds of golf and golf stories led to family stories filled with pride. He was a big personality who will be greatly missed. Yoni, we are leaving the country today on vacation and unable to attend the service. We are so very sorry for your loss. Prayers for comfort and strength and joy in the memories of the life you had together.

As a neighbor and golfing buddy, it has been an honor to know Derrick Curtis. He had a story or joke for every situation, and his laugh was infectious. He could sing, tell jokes, and he knew all the words to my favorite comedy monologue by Andy Griffith, "What It Was, Was Football".

Derrick's family was an important part of his life. He was always talking about Yoni and his daughters, and you could feel the pride he had for all his family members.

I will miss seeing Derrick walking his dogs in the neighborhood, and spending hours with him on the golf course. He had a great life. I will pray for Yoni and his family during this difficult time.

Derrick will be greatly missed as he always had a smile and story to tell. I will miss "my golf buddy" and think of him often. We made a contribution to Tracysdogs.com.
