

A graduate of Shasta High School in Redding, California, Devan answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Over the course of ten years, he served with honor and distinction, including two tours in Iraq as a combat medic. His courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to others defined his military service.
Following his time in the Army, Devan pursued his passion for helping others through healthcare. He attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, and later the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a Registered Nurse and Intensive Care Unit Charge Nurse, Devan was deeply respected for his clinical excellence, compassion, and dedication. He formed meaningful connections with patients and their families, earning their trust as well as the admiration of his colleagues.
Outside of his professional life, Devan was a devoted husband to Blake (Bryan) Ruonavaara and a loving companion to his cherished dogs Kolby, Dakota, Pogo, and Harvey. He found joy in the outdoors, often spending his free time at the shooting range, hiking, and fishing, pursuits that reflected his adventurous spirit and love of nature.
In addition to his wife, Blake, Devan is survived by his mother, Richene (Riki) Ruonavaara; his father, Thomas Ruonavaara; his brothers, Daniel, Michael, and Bradley Ruonavaara; his grandmothers, Eileen Crowley and Kathleen Rummel; his mother-in-law, Erinn Bryan; and his sister-in-law, Morgan Bryan.
Though his life was far too short, Devan's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered for his warm smile, infectious laughter, and the kindness and compassion he shared so freely. His life was a testament to service, love, and quiet strength.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home on May 29, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
