She is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Barnett who always doted on her and called her his Queen; four sisters, Cornelia, Mildred, Margaret, Lois and brother Jack.
She is survived by her sister Helen Knott, her children, Susan Canter Boyles and Stephen Alton Canter, and by her grandchildren Robert Strickland Boyles III and James Stephen Boyles. Family lore indicates she made these two the most photographed grandkids prior to the birth of digital cameras!
Dorlee was born on March 2, 1934 in Francisco, NC to Fletcher Morris Smith and Carrie Esther (Ward) Smith. She graduated from Francisco School in 1952 as valedictorian. After graduation she moved to Winston-Salem, NC where she worked for Wachovia Bank and met her first husband, James A. Canter. She was exceptionally proud of being raised on a tobacco farm and that her Daddy gave her a section to tend with all the proceeds going to her. She also loved playing basketball and was captain of her school team.
Dorlee loved her grandkids and helping her friends in Senior Living when she was one of the few with a car.
A small service will be held at a later date in NC when, per her wishes, her children reunite her with Bob to once again reign as Queen.
