

Eligio Betancourt Jr. passed away peacefully at home in Coppell, Texas, in his sleep on April 4, 2026, at the age of 82, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Brownsville, Texas, Eligio lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years. After his military service, he continued working in aviation before dedicating three decades to Southwest Airlines as an aircraft mechanic, where his hard work and commitment were deeply valued.
Eligio had a deep love for travel and treasured the experiences and memories he created along the way. Whether near or far, he found joy in exploring the world. He also enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in creating crafts with his hands. He stayed active by working out regularly at the YMCA and was deeply committed to giving back, volunteering within his community, including with the Coppell Police Department Citizen Patrol. He also gave his time and skills to help build sets for the Coppell Theater, supporting local productions and the arts in his community.
Above all, Eligio will be remembered for his kindness, his warm sense of humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will live on in all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Elissa Schafer and her husband Brian; his son, Christopher Betancourt and his wife Courtney; and his cherished grandchildren, Megan, Mandy, Avery, and Benjamin.
