Fred T. Covert Jr., our beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on July 4, 2025 peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 67. Born on April 28, 1958 to Fred and Ann Covert in Orlando, Florida, Fred began his young life watching rockets take off at Cape Canaveral. The eldest of four children, he spent the remainder of his childhood in Texas, being the best big brother to his three little sisters.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Covert, and his grandparents, Ben and Lena Covert, and Leon and Ann Brett. His memory lives on in his father, Fred Covert Sr.; sisters, Lee Anne, Michelle, and Kim; brothers-in-law, Alan, Jerry, and Ryan; nieces, Lauren and Emily; and nephews, Brett and Austin.
He graduated from North Garland High School in 1976 where he excelled in music, playing trumpet in the jazz band and leading the marching band as the head drum major. An excellent student with a gift for physics and math, Fred’s studies were cut short when he suffered a series of life challenges including a traumatic brain injury from a car accident in his twenties. Despite his hardships, Fred continued his love of learning through reading and taking classes at El Centro College.
Fred remained remarkably selfless, generous, and conscientious. He was known for his childlike sweetness, his kind and genuine heart and his zany sense of humor, which left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Although he didn’t have much to spare, he was happiest when he could share his small allowance with those in need. He found joy in simple moments, from listening to Doc Severinsen and John Anderson to watching the Dallas Cowboys–win or lose. But most of all, he treasured time with his family, always looking forward to the next birthday party or family gathering.
Throughout his entire journey in this life, he always spread joy and laughter to those around him. He had a knack for making friends easily, captivating people everywhere he went with his loving spirit and piercing blue eyes. Fred is now at peace, reunited with his mother, and restored in body, mind, and spirit. Even though he is no longer with us, the soulful melody he brought into this world continues to reverberate still.
