Fredrick Paul Achelpohl

Fredrick was born on August 14, 1939, to Paul Achelpohl and Agnes Pfaff in St. Charles, Missouri.

He went on to earn his BSCE from the University of Missouri in Rolla. He was a fraternity brother in Sigma Epsilon. From January 1969 until 2005, Fredrick worked for LTV Aerospace Corporation, Vought Aeronautics, and Lockheed Martin in Dallas, Texas. During his time at Lockheed Martin, he worked as the Lead Design Engineer and MLRS Project Manager.

Some of his other proud accomplishments included serving as a Polaris missile technician on the USS Calhoun submarine from 1962 to 1967. He also spent time working in Missouri with the Missouri Geological Survey and Water Resources as a soil lab technician, and with American Car and Foundry, where he helped design railcars as a railcar draftsman. Additionally, he closely collaborated with the EU on missile resourcing.

Outside of his work, Fredrick was devoted to his wife and family, and was loved by many who credited him with deeply influencing their lives. He was a gentle spirit who loved to read and was known as a jazz aficionado since the 1950s, often referring to himself as a "beatnik." He was well-known for his unique storytelling, "Fredisms," and hilarious jokes. In his spare time, he became a self-taught oil painter whose work was exhibited in galleries and featured in private collections. Known as a master bread baker, he nourished souls.

Fredrick is survived by his wife, Rosemary Riddle-Achelpohl; his children, Elizabeth Smith (Michael Smith) and Donn Puca (Aya Puca); his grandchildren, Connor Smith, Logan Smith, Cori McCreary, Kaisei Puca (Jasmine Puca), and Hana Puca; his sister, Nancy Seay (Steve Sr.) and their son, Steve Seay Jr. (Jusara Silva); and his nieces, Laura Seay (Dee Smith) and Cathy Neville (Brian Neville) and their children, Drew and Blake Seay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Achelpohl and Agnes Pfaff, as well as his son, Maximilian Achelpohl (September 27, 1973 – November 22, 1973).

His ashes will be spread at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, at St. Charles, Missouri where he loved to roam and will now continue to do so. The family will gather to celebrate Fredrick's life on his birthday at his home in Coppell. Contact: [email protected]
