The family moved to Tucson, Arizona in the mid 1950’s when his father was recruited by Hughes Aircraft Company. Gerald honorably served in the U.S. Army as an SP4 in Ft. Greely, Alaska. Recognized for outstanding performance as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, he efficiently excelled as an expert mechanic while handling all administrative duties. Beyond his primary role, he single-handedly managed motor pool administration, meticulously maintained his workspace and tools, and frequently served as a driver, often on midnight schedules for VIPs. A senior inspector praised the Fort Wainwright motor pool as "the finest facility observed in his career.”
Gerald worked at the American Red Cross in charge of building services and repairing medical equipment. He had numerous skills, including automotive, large and small equipment mechanic and various construction and home repairs. His hobbies included target shooting, ceramics and welding to name a few. He loved spending time with his wife, children (including many hours of volunteer work at their schools), grandchildren and family pets. Gerald did so much for everyone. He had such a kind heart and always stepped up to be there when needed the most never asking for anything in return. His Parkinson’s Disease robbed him of so many things, but it did not rob him of his spirit and the strength to keep moving forward facing everyday head on. It slowed his physical abilities. But it never suppressed his smile, sense of humor or his determination.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Julius Helmuth Armbruester and Violet May Meng-Armbruester, and brothers David, Ronald and Richard Armbruester.
Gerald is survived by his wife Elaine of 54 years; children Donna Armbruester and William Armbruester, his wife Rebecca Armbruester, and grandsons Ryan Zachary Armbruester and Ethan William Armbruester; brother Robert Armbruester, his wife Jean Armbruester; sister-in-law Annie Armbruester; nephew Michael Armbruester, his wife Elizabeth and sons Justin and William; niece Michelle Armbruester-Blevins, her husband Jamie and children Jordon and Zane; niece Brianna Flores, her husband Kristian and daughters Evelina and Eliana.
