She was born to Dellie Mae and Gerald Rawson on September 6, 1928 near San Augustine, TX, the second eldest of six siblings. She graduated from San Augustine High School and soon after
she moved to Dallas TX where she met the love of her life, Bill Dixon. They were married on June 19th, 1948.
Bill and Glendel shared 64 years of marriage before Bill’s passing in 2012. Glendel was a devoted Navy wife and loving mother of five children. During most of Bill’s military career, Glendel and the family followed him to live in many locations, including El Centro, California;
Corpus Christi, Texas; Port Lyautey, Morocco; McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; and Dallas, Texas. Although she lived in many places, Glendel always believed there was “no place like home” in Texas. Because Bill’s obligations as an aviator kept him away much of the time,
Glendel bore most of the responsibilities of child rearing. She took great pride in her home, making it a warm and welcoming place for her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. She made Christmas and birthdays joyous and special. She was an accomplished knitter, seamstress, and gardener, and loved sharing her skills
with others. Both she and Bill enjoyed socializing with friends and family and some of Glendel’s favorite hobbies were playing bridge, mahjong, and other games.
In 1983, Bill and Glendel moved from their home in Oak Cliff (Dallas) to Coppell, TX where she lived until 2013. Glendel was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Coppell and was also involved in several local organizations, including the African Violet Society and Coppell Community Services. Glendel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Dixon, sisters Geraldine Shamblin
and Mozelle Brown, brother “Bucky Freeland Rawson, and one grandchild, Trece Porrata. She is survived by two sisters, Wanda Matthes and Evanell Sheppard; her children: Patricia Dixon
Davenport, Debi Dixon Waltz and husband Don, Rhonda Dixon Oesterle and husband Andy, David Dixon, and Rick Dixon and wife Ann, as well as seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
