Born on February 11, 1930, in Caracas, Venezuela, to Iginia Bartolome Alamo and Antonio Alamo Davila. Iginia was enthusiastic, curious, adventurous, filled with wonder and fully alive, whether in Venezuela, Costa Rica, or the United States.
Iginia lived with her family as political refugee in Costa Rica as a child; obtained bachelor degrees in engineering and anthropology in Venezuela in her 20’s; had five children, including two sets of twins, in her 30’s; learned downhill skiing and became a rabid Red Sox fan in her 40’s, after moving to Boston; obtained a master’s degree in bilingual education and became a grade-school teacher in her 50’s; studied Latin, started cross-country skiing and cheered her daughter’s first Winter Olympics performance in Japan in her 60’s; toasted two Red Sox world-series wins in her 70’s; visited Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and the United Kingdom in her 80’s; and as a devout Catholic she dutifully drove her hybrid Honda to volunteer weekly at the Eucarisitc Adoration Chapel of St Ann Catholic Parish 1:00 am to 2:00 am praying for many intentions and spending intimate time with Jesus Christ. She even took a Canadian cross-country train trip a few months ago! Throughout it all, she blessed those fortunate enough to know her with her passion, practicality, faith, courage, and humor. Her laughter was contagious and her penchant for having fun anytime anywhere will be missed.
