Carolyn was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, to Dwight and Aurelia Bridges Morehead. She was their sixth and youngest child.
She graduated from Mooresboro High school in 1950. Within a year she rode the bus to Texas to join her sister, Nell, and family in Grand Prairie. Carolyn got a job as a secretary at Temco, which she enjoyed. She met Donald Wayne Lorenz, an SMU engineering student recently out of the Navy, through friends. They married on Feb. 1, 1956, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Dallas and settled in Irving, Texas, and joined St. Marks Episcopal Church.
These two places, which they never left, provided stability, led to lifelong friendships, and work and personal opportunities, not only for Carolyn and her immediate family, but for her nieces, nephews, and sisters, as well. In addition, they welcomed and truly enjoyed the friends of their children.
Carolyn was a homemaker for many years before she entered the real estate field, first as a secretary, then earning a license and becoming a million dollar seller. She later served as secretary at Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her sisters Marion Graham, Nell Chatham, and Nina Stahl; her brother Hugh Morehead; and nephews Alan Dean Graham and George Chatham. She was preceded also by her husband’s brother and sister, and nephew John Lorenz.
She is survived by her daughters and husbands, Leslie and Dale Gibson, and Marion and Roy Wadsworth; son Alex and wife Elaine Maben Lorenz; granddaughters Ellen and Robert McCullough, Carolyn Gibson, and Annie Wadsworth; grandsons Charles and wife Brittany Wadsworth, and John, Michael and Paul Wadsworth; and great-grandson Arthur McCullough. Others left to cherish her memory are nieces Christina Chatham Cross, Carolyn Parrish, and Susan Crumpton; nephews Geoff Chatham, Scott Graham, and David and Steven Lorenz; and devoted caregiver Betsi Wadsworth; as well as great nieces and nephews. Grieving also is her faithful and beloved dog Beau. Carolyn maintained her pleasant ways and sense of humor to the end.
The family is grateful for Tommie Owen for such good care for several years, and also thanks the staff at Baylor Scott White, Irving.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at St. Marks Church in Irving, during which her ashes will be interred with her husband’s in the columbarium at the church. Masks are required. Donations in her honor may be made to St. Marks Irving.
Rolling Oaks Funeral Home handled the cremation.
