On Saturday, June 26, 2021, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Jerry R. Comer of Coppell Texas, was called home by the Lord at the age of 81. Jerry was born on June 22, 1940 to LB and Tommie Comer in Sulphur Springs Texas. Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years Betty “Jeannine” Comer, daughters Linda Spraggins and her husband Stan of The Colony, Carole Brooks of Dallas and Angela Lambert and her husband Sean of Frisco. Grandchildren, Stephanie Housel and her husband Jeremy of Carrollton, Miquan Robinson of Marlow OK, Ryan Brooks of Marlow OK, Reagan Brooks of Cedar Hill, Chase Lambert of Frisco, great grandson Joshua Jeric Housel of Carrollton, sister Sue Qualls of Garland and nephews, Kelly Qualls of Lewisville and Casey Qualls of Sherman.
After graduating from Garland High School, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 4 years at South Ruislip Air Station, England and 4 years at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. While in England he received commendations for his services from Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, John K. Hester, Major General, US Air Force Assistant Vice Chief of Staff and Commander and Chief General GP Disosway for his outstanding performance in connection with exercise “Big Lift”. His last duty assignment was as an operations specialist at Headquarters Squadron 821st Combat support Group in South Dakota.
Upon returning to Dallas from the Air Force, Jerry spent the next 30 plus years in the Automotive Industry. He started as a Sales Consultant and quickly made his way up to Sales Manager, Finance Manager, GSM and GM.
From an early age, Jerry loved all sports, especially baseball where he was a star pitcher in Sulphur Springs. Over the years, he went on to participate in Rugby as well as boxing. He loved all things that challenged the mind such as Scrabble, Chess, board games, puzzles and cards. After his successful career in the Automotive Industry, Jerry and his wife enjoyed their retirement where they traveled extensively and spent time with their children and grandchildren. Jerry was a great family man and friend to all who knew him.
Jerry and his wife are longtime members of Valley Ranch Baptist Church where they cherished the love and friendship of their church family.
There will be a visitation on Monday, July 5 2021 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell and a graveside service at the DFW VA Cemetery Tuesday July 6 2021 at 2PM.
