Joel was a longtime executive for American Airlines, China Eastern, and Hainan Airlines. Throughout his distinguished career, he traveled extensively, built lasting relationships, and mentored many who went on to achieve great success in the field. He was pivotal to the founding of American Eagle, a regional division of American Airlines, and was a leader in introducing Hainan Airlines to the U.S. and Canada.
Joel was born July 19, 1949, in Newark, NJ, to Jean Irene (Hirshberg) Chusid and Morris Louis Chusid. He graduated from Columbia High School, in Maplewood NJ, in 1967, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1973. He later received a Master of Business Administration, specializing in International Management, from the University of Dallas.
Joel will be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, and ability to connect with people everywhere he worked and visited. Language and cultural differences were never obstacles to the lifelong friendships he forged.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Carrillo, and two brothers, Irwin Chusid and Daniel Chusid (and their respective wives, Lisa Hirschfield and Margaret Field). Joel's warmth and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by friends, family members and colleagues worldwide.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:00 pm at 914 Canal Street, Irving, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout) in Joel's name.
