John was born in Troy, New York to Italian immigrant parents, Frank and Adelina Reale.
From humble beginnings, John began work at a young age and remained in the restaurant industry until his retirement earlier this year.
Before what would eventually lead him to executive leadership of major restaurant chains, John co-owned Grandma Pies restaurant in Upstate New York. Upon selling the restaurant, he entered restaurant management at The Ground Round, where he would meet the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Maria.
John’s career portrayed the American dream. In 1995, John accepted a corporate position at TGI Friday’s and he and his family relocated to Coppell, TX. From there, John held various executive leadership roles at Brinker, Inc., FOCUS Brands, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. John traveled the globe and visited more than 70 countries during his celebrated career. The highlight was being accompanied by his family on several overseas adventures and showing his children the world. Known as a fair but firm leader, he had a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those he touched and mentored.
Outside of work, John and his family created countless memories at Lake Cypress Springs, their home away from home. He also had a passion for sports and even owned his own racehorse. He enjoyed attending live sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup, MLB ALCS, Brickyard 400, and Final Four. On his birthday in 2008, he threw out the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs game, a once in a lifetime opportunity, even for an avid Yankees fan.
Above all else John was “Babe,” “Daddy,” “Pop Pop” and “Johnny.” He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He made many sacrifices for his family, who he always put first. His most crowning achievements by far were his children and grandchildren.
As a committed man of faith, John volunteered as a dedicated parishioner.
John is survived by his beloved wife Maria, adoring children Krystina (Mike) Britt of Coppell, Texas, and Jonathan (Suzie) Reale of Frisco, Texas, and grandchildren Charlotte (“Charlie”) and Cameron Britt, Grace Reale and baby girl Reale due in August. He is also survived by his sister Rose (Matt) Neal, as well as his uncle, aunts, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Jianna Rose, and parents Frank and Adelina Reale.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 14, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Parish, 180 Samuel Blvd, Coppell, Texas 75019.
