Jose (Joe) Gonzalez, age 83, passed away April 3, 2023, peacefully in his bed surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Milam County, TX and grew up in San Antonio. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and spent the next twenty years proudly serving his country. Along the way he had two sons then met and married his wife of 53 years and had 3 daughters. He lived in El Paso most of his life until moving to Dallas, where he lived with his daughters until his passing.
During his time in the army, Joe served overseas in France, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Germany, earning the following honors: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Joe took great pride in being a retired Army Vietnam Veteran. He was strong willed and stubborn. You would be hard pressed to talk him out of anything he had already set his mind to. He enjoyed drinks at the VFW, shopping at the commissary and boy did he love his sweets! He was a man of few words but loved his family fiercely and kept us laughing with his colorful sayings, crazy antics, and jokes that his grandchildren didn’t always get. He was truly one of a kind. The emptiness felt by his loss is only softened by the knowledge that he is now reunited with our mother and sister. We love you Daddy!
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, oldest son, and youngest daughter. He is survived by 2 daughters, a son, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, an older brother and sister, a younger brother, and countless extended family.
