Stu Hof Hoskins and Pamela J. Hoskins-Sturgeon celebrate our mother's remarkable life as she peacefully passed on September 10, 2025, at the age of ninety-one. Surrounded by love in the comfort of her own home in Colleyville, TX, a community and neighbors she loved, and where we were blessed to care for her, so, it is with heavy hearts that we remember Joyce Hoskins, who was born on October 21, 1933 to Hardin Wilson and Marian Schneider. She left this life knowing how deeply cherished she was. Her children, Stuart Hof Hoskins, and Pamela J. Hoskins-Sturgeon, along with her son-in-law Frank Sturgeon, honor her remarkable legacy and countless memories they created together.
Joyce's journey began in Bloomington, Illinois, before she made her home with her late ex-husband, Sidney Stuart Hoskins, in the quaint town of East Gary, aka Lake Station, where she poured her heart into raising her dear children. A proud graduate of East Gary Edison High School, Class of 1951, she instilled the values of education and perseverance in her children, who followed her. Despite being right-handed, Joyce uniquely made her mark as a left-handed butcher at the National Food Store on Central Avenue. Her resilience and determination were evident as she ventured into real estate, acquiring apartment and commercial buildings to create a life that reflected her dreams. Later in her career, Joyce found fulfillment working at the bank, where her daughter hired and welcomed her to the team. There, she finished off her life career in the banking business.
The true joy of Joyce's life blossomed through her grandson, Joseph Pena and father to her only great-grandchild, Elizabeth Gomez, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Joyce moved to Texas over 20 years ago, where she enjoyed the warm company of her daughter, son, and son-in-law. Their gatherings were brighter each year through visits from Elizabeth Gomez, a source of joy to her since she was just five years old, creating treasured moments that brought laughter and love into her life.
Her spirit will live on in her beloved sister, Harla Fusko, half-brother Harry “Butch” Andres Jr., her cherished nephew, Joseph Fusko Jr., Paul Shafer Jr., and Krista Whiteside. Joyce's light will forever shine in the lives she touched, a reminder of the compassion and joy she shared with everyone around her.
Joyce has reunited with her best friend Pearl May Harrison, who preceded her in death, whom she loved dearly. Her parents Hardin Wilson and Marian Schneider, half-brother Gary Andres, and niece Marianne Fusko.
