Kim Green, 53, passed away peacefully at her Coppell home on March 14th surrounded by her family. She was born in Ruston, Louisiana, on October 19, 1970, to her parents Jim Wilson Bennett, Jr. and Sandra Blackmon Bennett. After Kim’s parents graduated from Louisiana Tech, the family moved to six locations, where Kim’s father coached high school football and her mother taught school. Kim made good friends at each new school and always looked at her hometowns with happy memories of school and church activities. In each new home, Kim and her family were active in the local Baptist church. It was at Waco First Baptist Church that Kim became a Christian. She asked Jesus into her heart of October 7, 1978. Kim attended kindergarten in St. Joseph, LA, first and second grade in Minden, LA, third and fourth grade in Hewitt and Woodway, TX, middle school in Alvarado, TX, and high school in Irving, TX.
After graduating from Irving High in 1988, Kim attended Baylor University, where she graduated in 1992, with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While at BU, Kim was active in Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
During her freshman year at BU, Kim met Ronald Gardner Green of Little Rock, Arkansas. Immediately, Kim and Gardner discovered their many shared interests and values. After their college graduation, they married on June 27, 1992, at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, Irving, TX. They made their first home in Irving.
Kim taught kindergarten in the Irving ISD at Otis Brown Elementary School and later, John R. Good Elementary. Kim loved her students and was known for making her classroom alive with stories and fun, amid the learning. Gardner’s work with J.B. Hunt Transport took them from Irving to New Brunswick, NJ in 1994. There, Kim worked at BMI Educational Services.
On returning to Texas in 1995, Kim and Gardner established their home in Coppell. There, Kim’s greatest joy came true – her role as mother to two children, Abigail Elizabeth Green, born October 1, 1996, followed by Davis Gardner Green, born April 8, 1999, The Greens made a habit of attending Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, where they made good friends and enjoyed every family activity offered. Kim especially loved teaching VBS and working with the children’s choir program.
Most of all, Kim loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, who was never closer to her that in the last months of her life, as she battled sarcoma cancer. He was her source of strength and hope, when both were hard to find. Ultimately, because of that decision Kim made in 1978 to be a follower of His and because of His grace to wash away her sins, she rests and rejoices with Jesus in Heaven today.
During the months of Kim’s battle with cancer, Gardner was Kim’s constant encourager and spiritual partner. He devoted his days and nights to caring for her every need. He expressed compassion and respect for Kim, as new challenges developed. He watched over the needs of their children, as he and Kim always have done.
Kim is survived by her husband Gardner Green of Coppell, her beloved children Abby Green of Abilene, TX, and Davis Green of Tampa, FL, her mother Sandra Bennett of Irving, her father and step-mother Jim and Peggy Bennett of Bedford, TX, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Wendy and Frank Grobmyer of Little Rock, AR, her sister-in-law Jessie Grobmyer of Little Rock, AR, and step-brothers Cody Barkley (wife Jessica) of Berkeley, CA, Rev. Bailey Barkley (wife Randa) of Lubbock, TX, and Dr. Kyler Barkley (wife Camille) of Lubbock, TX. Kim is remembered by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who have shared her 53 years.
Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Faye Bennett of Marshall, TX and Elmo and Bobbie Blackmon of Winnsboro, LA, and her cousin Jay Blackmon of Alexandria, LA.
