

Mary “Sue“ Shields died peacefully on January 30 at the age of 91. She was known for her easy laugh, passion for justice, boundless curiosity, and kindness. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dave Shields; children Jim (wife, Joanie), Kirk (wife, Lisa), Kathy (husband, John); granddaughters Lauren, Jessi, Anna, and Kim; great grandsons Arthur and Otto; along with many beloved extended family members and friends.
Sue was born and raised on a farm in Howard, Ohio and attended college in Wooster Ohio, where she met her husband, Dave. She worked in the field of education, including her favorite job, teaching English as a second language. She became a master naturalist in her 60s and volunteered at the Minnesota zoo. Throughout her life, she was very involved as a volunteer and educator in the church. When she could no longer travel the world physically, she continued to travel it in her mind, dreaming of the beautiful places she had been. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and laughter.
