Melissa Sue MCGUIRE
March 10, 1960 – March 16, 2021
Melissa Sue “Reed” McGuire was born in Dallas on March 10, 1960. She died in my arms on March 16, 2021. Melissa and I met in 1976 while attending high school at R.L. Turner in Carrollton, Texas. We dated throughout our high school and college years. Melissa graduated from The University of North Texas with a Bachelor Degree in art.
In 1982, with the blessing of Wallace and Lois Reed, we were married. Melissa worked in advertising with Betty Martin Agency, and North Star Homes, as advertising director.
In 1988, we welcomed Katherine “Katie” Lyn into the world, followed by Christopher “Chris” Randall, in 1990. The kids were her world. Katie danced, and Melissa didn’t miss a performance. Melissa was a den mother to Chris as a cub scout, as well as five or six other unruly young boys. She enjoyed serving the city of Coppell during her time working for Stringfellow School at First United Methodist Church, and later Town Center Elementary and the Coppell Independent School District Administrative Building.
If you knew Melissa, she was an avid crafter who also loved to read. We enjoyed many trips to Ruidoso, New Mexico, both alone together and later with the kids. It is our “happy place.” The Northern California coast and wine country became a favorite place to explore and enjoy each other’s company, too. Melissa is survived by Katie, Jed, Ava, and Addie Myers, as well as Chris, Myka, Finley, and Piper McGuire. Her parents, Wally and Lois, and her brothers, Wally and Kevin, have and will continue to hold me up throughout these times. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, along with their families. My strength to endure Melissa’s death comes from the love of countless close friends, made over the years (Bunco Ladies especially)!
Sophie and I will miss her until the end of our days.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Melissa's honor to the SPCA of Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Coppell on April 26, 2021 at 1pm and will be available to view via Zoom. A Zoom link for remote viewing is forthcoming.

Dave, Don and I became friends in 1979/1980 while working at Electrospace together. When Don and I started dating, we soon met Melissa and had so many fun times prior to starting families. I always remember the cute stories Melissa would tell about dating Dave and how she knew he was her guy and getting him to propose! Melissa loved David and her family fiercely. Melissa was so much fun, smart, and just a beautiful soul who always made you feel accepted and comfortable. After being away from Dallas for over 23 years, Don and I were so excited to return to Dallas and start spending time with our old dear friends. We are devastated that our time with Melissa has been cut short. We feel blessed to have been friends with her. Our thoughts and love are with Dave, Katie, Chris, Wally, Lois, and all of Melissa’s extended family and friends. We were all so lucky to have known sweet Melissa! Be the Piece!

Melissa and David have been our back door neighbors for years.
When Melissa would leave the house she would always greet us with that great big beautiful smile and wave good bye. Melissa was such a pleasant young lady with a heart of gold.
Our hearts are broken and we have cried a million tears. However, we will not let the tears mar the beautiful memories, smiles and laughter she gave us.
David, Katie and Chris please accept our sincere condolences.
Prayers. Jon, Patty and De Ann Marks

Dave & McGuire Family;
We are devastated at the loss of Melissa. I knew from the moment I met her after Chris and Myka started dating that we would be friends. She was sweet, kind and could decorate and throw a party like no other. She loved her family more than anything and was an incredible Gammy & Grandma to the 4 girls. I admire her strength and courage, what a warrior. She is an incredible example of what a wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, sister and most of all what a Grandmother should be. We are here for you and your family and are mourning her loss with you all. God bless you all from the entire Suges Family. xoxo

Melissa was a fun and wonderful friend. I moved to Nacogdoches a couple of years ago from Coppell so we had not talked in some time. She was one of those friends that it didn’t matter how much time had passed-we picked up right where we left off. Our boys were Lego and Art Daze buddies. We would laugh at all kinds of things because we were just that way. Melissa had a servants heart, was extremely generous and I have been blessed to be her friend. I pray for David, Katie and Chris.

We met Melissa and her husband over 30 years ago and in this time, I have watched her and David grow their beautiful family. Melissa has been a shining example of grace over the years as life dealt challenges that would be unsurmountable to many. She will stay in my heart as someone who had a graceful impact in my life by being an example of strength, courage, joy and the most infectious smile and laughter! What a blessing to have made memories with her and to have called her a friend. God Bless the entire McGuire family.

Floods of tears are mixed with 35 years of wonderful memories as young married couples and raising our families together. Our monthly Bunco Babes gathering is the catalyst that continued to bring us together even though the miles separated us. A true angel on earth and we were all blessed to be touched by her spirit!
