Michael John Howell was born on February 24, 1969, in Sherman, Texas to Thomas and Thelus Howell. After a period of declining health due to Alzheimer’s disease, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 19, 2026. He was a loving husband to Elizabeth and a wonderful father to Jeffrey and David.
He was raised in Sherman, Texas with his older sister, Susan, and graduated from Sherman High School in 1987. While at Sherman High, Michael excelled as a member of the Bearcats tennis team; he continued to share his love of the sport with his family and friends for the rest of his life. After graduating high school, Michael attended Baylor University, where he graduated with degrees in finance and marketing in 1991. He served as the treasurer of, and was a member of, the Baylor Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Michael met the love of his life, Elizabeth, during his time at Baylor. They met in 1989 and married four years later in 1993.
Michael began his banking career in Waco after graduating from Baylor. He soon moved to Dallas and started working at Brookhollow National Bank. Michael continued his studies while he worked at Brookhollow. He graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Texas in 1997 and graduated from Southern Methodist University’s Southwestern Graduate School of Banking in 2001. That same year, Michael accepted a job at North Dallas Bank & Trust. He would spend the rest of his career at NDBT. Both his colleagues and his clients praised his skill as a banker and, above all, his work ethic.
In his free time, Michael loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He spent countless weekends playing tennis with his family and trying to teach his sons to golf. Michael invested heavily in his family, and in creating priceless memories that would last a lifetime. He cherished travelling with his family and friends, from hiking in Colorado and skiing in New Mexico to driving across the country and backpacking across Europe.
Michael was a Christian first—even before he was a family man, a friend, or a colleague. He was a longtime member of GracePoint Church, formerly First Baptist Church, in Coppell, Texas. At GracePoint, he served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, an adult small group leader, a greeter, and a deacon. He instilled his faith in his family, he supported his friends in their faith, and he lived his faith in his day-to-day life.
Michael is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dickinson Howell, of Coppell, Texas; son David Parks Howell and his wife, Rebecca, of Melissa, Texas; son Jeffrey Williamson Howell of Coppell, Texas; father Thomas William Howell of Sherman, Texas; sister Susan Howell Cobb and her husband, Jon, of Austin, Texas; niece Ashlyn Grace Huddleston and her husband, Davis, of Richardson, Texas; nephew Stephen Howell Cobb of Dallas, Texas; aunt Susan Mary Howell and her husband, Robert, of Fort Worth, Texas; cousin Leah Bower Little and her husband, Adam, of Plano, Texas; cousin John Brett Bower of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; cousin Laura Allison Bower of Tulsa, Oklahoma; cousin Stanley Howell Eldred and his wife, Isabel, of Kensington, Maryland; cousin Henry Sawyer Eldred of Derby, Vermont; mother-in-law Juanita Normand Dickinson of Coppell, Texas; brother-in-law Thomas Parks Dickinson and his wife, Patricia, of Spokane, Washington; and several other beloved members of his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelus Gayle Bower Howell, of Sherman, Texas; uncle John Allen Bower of Tulsa, Oklahoma; aunt Kathleen Howell Eldred of Columbia, Maryland; and father-in-law Clement Parks Dickinson of The Woodlands, Texas.
A memorial service in remembrance of Michael’s life will be held at GracePoint Church in Coppell, Texas at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the GracePoint children’s ministry. Details to follow.
