On October 22, 2020, Nikolas Cole passed away. Born on August 28, 2000, Nikolas enriched many with his love, empathy, and wit. A beloved son, exuberant brother, devoted grandson, dedicated coach, determined athlete, and earnest student, Nikolas shared his joy of life and lived each day to the fullest.
From his childhood, Nikolas was an exceptional athlete. He excelled in soccer, and later in gymnastics which became a lifelong passion. His training at Southlake Gymnastics became a near-daily part of his routine from the fourth grade on. He continued his competitive training, eventually coaching young aspiring gymnasts until he graduated from Coppell High School. He then began his career at Texas Tech University, where he majored in Finance and became an integral part of his club gymnastics team. Throughout his time in college, Nikolas continued to coach and care for young gymnasts who found the same passion that he had in the sport at TEGA Kids Gymnastics Center. Those at Southlake Gymnastics and TEGA became like second families to Nikolas.
But Nikolas was much more than an accomplished athlete and determined student. His laughter and enthusiasm were contagious, and his optimistic, fun-loving outlook on life brought joy to all around him. He was a natural as a coach – caring and empathetic, while at the same time instilling confidence and demanding accountability. Most importantly, Nikolas was unceasingly kind and empathetic to the needs of all of those around him, whether students, friends, or family. Wherever Nikolas was, there was a shoulder to lean on and a friend to confide in.
Not surprisingly, he also found another exciting passion in which to channel his natural intellectual curiosity, business and finance. He actively followed the stock market and succeeded in growing his brokerage account until the day of his passing.
Nikolas is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Mary and Walter Geercken and is survived by his parents, Daron and Elisabeth Cole, his paternal grandparents, Beverly and Charles Cole, his siblings, Kenneth and Amy Cole, Ryan Cole, and Martin Cole, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
All his life, Nikolas found joy in helping others. We will always remember Nikolas offering a helping hand and a smile on his face. He made our lives and those in the Coppell and Texas Tech communities better and more joyful.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Texas Special Olympics. SOTX.org.
