August 10, 1925 – April 12, 2019
Nop Pon passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 4:45 PM CDT, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Carrollton, Texas. Nop Pon was born on August 10, 1925, in Puum Talong, Srok Bonhteaj Meas, Kampot Province, Cambodia. During his teenage years, Nop’s parents passed away, which left him with the challenge of raising his four siblings. Nop had little opportunity in his hometown to make a living for his family, so he ventured to Battambang Province to find work in hopes of reuniting with his siblings. It was in Battambang Province that Nop met a young lady, San Uy, who also faced similar circumstances and it was this connection that eventually brought them together to join in holy matrimony and combine their strength to survive the Khmer Rouge. In 1980, Nop led his family through refugee camps in Thailand to emigrate to the United States of America, settling in Carrollton, Texas.
There are countless ways to describe Nop Pon, as he was a devoted, kind, and clearly fashionable individual. He was compassionate, unselfish, and was always welcoming with an open heart. He would undoubtedly give everything he could to anybody that was in need.
Nop Pon was an active member of the Cambodian First Baptist Church of Carrollton since its inception. He continues to be well respected and loved within the Khmer community of Carrollton. We will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, San Uy, three children, Siek, Emily, and Siem, eight grandchildren, Dena, Kathy, Billy, Anthony, Brian, Victoria, Ethan, and Aundrea, and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Grayson. Rest in Peace Nop Pon!
