Richard Bogard, 82, of Irving, TX, formerly of Evansville, IN, passed away November 13, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side, after an 18 month battle with terminal cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucille Bogard; brother, Stanley Bogard; and sister, Sarah Mayfield. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda; daughter, Dava Jo Schwentker (John); son, Dirk (Nikki); grandson Andrew Bogard; cousins, nieces and nephews. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1955, where he played football and ran track. He took pride in the fact that he played football for the late Coach Herman Byers on one of his championship teams. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Evansville and primarily worked Construction until he retired. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 561 and the Riverbend Association. Richard enjoyed fishing in South Padre Island, TX, taking care of his garden and property, walking, telling stories, ribbing friends and family, playing slots and lending a hand when asked. After moving to Texas in July 2015, he enjoyed playing Top Golf and spending time with his grandson Andrew and watching him play basketball and soccer. The family is planning a gathering at a later date in Evansville to celebrate his life. Richard requested his ashes be spread at his favorite fishing spot in South Padre Island.
