Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edith (Warren) Meagher and his brother, Gary L. Meagher. Roger is survived by his wife, Jennifer Goodwyn Meagher of Coppell, TX; son, Jonathan Keith Meagher of Tylertown, MS.; stepdaughter, Megan Goodwyn; and stepson, Kyle (Sarah) Goodwyn, and his cherished granddaughter, Blake Olivia Goodwyn. His legacy is carried on by his three surviving siblings – Kim (Kevin) Law, Nancy (Shawn) Hagen, and Jan (Bruce) Hampton, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Born on January 1, 1953, in Carbondale, IL, Roger spent his youth in Bowling Green, KY where he formed lifelong friendships. During his career as an attorney, he worked in Mississippi and Texas, where he later retired.
A devoted father, husband, and grandfather, he was affectionately named “Ga-Rog” by his little granddaughter who could not say Grandpa Rog.
Roger's passion for the law was evident from a young age, leading him to a successful career in private practice and corporate law. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, where he was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and formed more lifelong friendships. He fulfilled his dream when he graduated from Mississippi College School of Law with his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1980. Licensed in Mississippi, he worked in private practice before becoming corporate counsel for the Federal Land Bank in New Orleans. Roger later worked for the FDIC and RTC and obtained his Texas license and spent his final career years as in-house counsel for Metromedia Restaurant Group and Sally Beauty Supply. He also served as an FDIC trustee and served on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together – Dallas.
Beyond his professional life, Roger loved the great outdoors. He treasured his many camping and beach trips with his son Jonathan over the years, and greatly looked forward to their frequent phone calls. Roger loved creating lasting memories with his wife and friends cruising in the Caribbean, taking trips to the beach, and traveling throughout Maine.
Roger was also a passionate sports fan and sports car enthusiast. Throughout the years he spent playing sports, he always wore #17. He religiously followed the St. Louis Cardinals from a very young age and was an avid fan of the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers, often sharing his enthusiasm for the game with loved ones. He treasured the many memories he created from the baseball reunion trips with his buddies to see the Cardinals and visit various MLB stadiums. A significant baseball highlight for Rog was going to the World Series in 2020. He was a sports car enthusiast who loved convertibles, and his pride and joy was his red, convertible Corvette. No one had a cleaner, shinier car than Roger Meagher.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication.
