

Shaji was born into the Poozhikala family on May 7, 1955, in Thadiyoor, Kerala, India, to P. J. Philip and Sosamma Philip. The youngest of eight siblings, he spent his childhood in Thadiyoor, where he graduated 10th grade from Thadiyoor High School. He moved to Pune to complete high school at Seventh-day Adventist High School, and later to Bombay to pursue a degree in hotel management. During his time there, he formed many lifelong friendships he kept in touch with to this day.
At the age of 25, Shaji first immigrated to Michigan with the help of his oldest sister Annie Thomas. Later on he moved to Houston, Texas, where he soon discovered his true calling in radiology. He went on to build a remarkable 32-year career as an MRI Technologist at Medical City Arlington, where he was deeply respected and loved by colleagues and patients alike. Dedicated to excellence in imaging, Shaji also took great pride in teaching and mentoring many students throughout his career.
He enjoyed taking medical mission trips to India. The last one was in July 2024, he went to Kerala on a medical mission trip with Operation Smile, assisting in several surgeries for young children—a reflection of his lifelong compassion and commitment to serving others.
Shaji had a passion for music, cooking, soccer, and basketball, and always kept up with current events. He was God-fearing, kindhearted, and humble, known for his calm presence, selfless nature, and sense of humor that could brighten anyone’s day. He lived a life marked by hard work, faith, and generosity—devoting himself fully to his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him.
Shaji is survived by his loving wife Sherly, his devoted daughter Susan, and his siblings: Philip Johns (late brother) Susy Johns, Annie Thomas (late John), Santhamma Philip (late Samuel), Rachel (Ammal) Thomas (late Rajan), Georgekutty (late brother), Laly Easow (John), and Anna (Liza) Thomas (Jayaraj).
A wake service will be held on Friday, October 17th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Marthoma Church of Dallas, Carrollton. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 18th, at 1:30 p.m. at the same location, followed by the burial service at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center in Coppell. Dinner will be served at the church following the burial.
