Born April 17, 1937, in Rusk County, Texas, she graduated from Henderson High School in Henderson, Texas. Shirley became a practicing beautician before raising her three children and making the family’s house a home.
She wed her high school sweetheart, James Malcolm Greer, on October 20, 1956, and cherished their 63 years of loving marriage. They were charter members of Fellowship Church in 1989 and faithful attendees, Shirley as recently as a few weeks ago.
“Sweet Shirley Greer” as Malcolm called her was best known for always having a big, beautiful smile and an encouraging word for others. She was blessed with an artistic creativity displayed through her painted ceramics, many oil paintings, and her skill as a seamstress. Shirley loved square dancing and travelling with Malcolm, studying the Bible, fellowship with her “home team,” and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events.
Growing up on a farm as the third of five children, Shirley was a living example of truly appreciating God’s grace and many blessings. She embodied patience, unconditional love, and had a remarkable way of letting the light and hope of Jesus shine through her words and that smile. Through her unassuming way of talking about God, inviting people to church, and welcoming people into her home, she leaves a legacy of care and concern for her family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.
She is survived by her sister, Lois Leopard Greer of Burleson, Texas; her daughters, Allyson Greer Quinn and husband James, and Marian Greer Scoggins and husband Alan all of Irving, Texas; a son Jeffrey Malcolm Greer and wife Marion of Lewisville, Texas; five grandchildren, Adam Jeffrey Roberts and wife Jamie, Nicole Scoggins Brown and husband James, Jackson Jarrell Greer and wife Clara, Jared Malcolm Greer, and Mallory Elizabeth Greer; eight great-grandchildren, Rachel Christina Lauren Pierrett, Kelsey Elizabeth Roberts, Chayce Nicole Brown, Chloe Mae Brown, Ezekiel Noah Roberts, Addison Virgene Roberts, Cali Ann Roberts, and Alan James Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Malcolm Greer; father Marion Thornton “Buddy” Leopard, and mother Essie Francis Taylor Leopard; her sisters Helen Leopard Smith, Frances Leopard Taylor; her brother Horace Alton Leopard; and by a grandson, Christopher Bryan Roberts.
