Stephen was born September 11th 1952 in Elgin, Illinois, he is survived by the love of his life, Patti, his 2nd family and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother & father, Ardith & Donald Devers and his brother Donald (Gene) Devers. He loved being with friends and was known for his willingness to help anyone in need, whether friend or stranger.
From a fairly young age, Stephen had a passion for helping people. His first job was with the fire department as a fireman/paramedic where he grew up in Elgin, Illinois. When he moved to Texas, the fire department had finished hiring for the year so he drove to Austin to test for the police department and was hired by the Denton County Sherrif’s office where he spent the next 15 years on SWAT and serving warrants in South Dallas! When he decided to retire from his career of fireman/paramedic/police detective, he wanted to help people in need of home remodeling/repairs. He spent time working/helping his dad growing up learning from him and continuing throughout his life with helping friends and strangers in their homes. He loved rodeo’s and animals and even owned a couple of horses for a time spending some of his off-time horseback riding and rodeoing.
His love will live on in my heart and memory, he was my anchor in every aspect of our short-married life. From the day we met, his steady presence shaped my world. We didn’t just build a life—we built a bond rooted in understanding, and deep affection. He made me better, and gave me the kind of love that never needed saying yet was said many times, over our short-married life.
A memorial service in remembrance of Stephen’s life will be held Friday, June 26, at Rolling Oaks, in Coppell, 2:00-3:00 p.m., following with 3:00-3:30 graveside services. Stephen’s favorite charity was muscular Dystrophy for anyone wishing to donate in lieu of flowers.
