

Thomas Eugene Murphy II, Tom or Tommy to most, passed away on Jun 23, 2025. He was a beloved son, brother, husband and friend to many.
Tom was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 27, 1979, named after his father. He was the first child of two large and loving families and an older brother to 3 adored sisters who soon followed. Together the Murphys lived in Florida, Connecticut, California and New Zealand before settling in Southern California where Tom attended St. Margaret’s Episcopal High School in San Juan Capistrano, and later, University of California, Santa Barbara achieving a B.S. in Economics in 2001.
Tom is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy in 2009, achieving the Presidents List and Honor Roll. A devoted chef, he served in a variety of culinary leadership roles including Executive Steward at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, Main Kitchen Chef at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego and most recently, Restaurant Chef at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. Tom oversaw food management, menu and recipe development, and large banquet events bringing innovation, excellence and high standards to everything he did. Tom had a creative approach to cooking and was recognized with an original recipe, “Cali-schetta,” published in Family Circle Magazine and an exclusive invitation for his beet linguine to be featured in the World Food Competition in Dallas. Tom trained, guided and motivated large teams of cooks and stewards who deferred to his steady leadership with simply “Yes Chef.”
Outside of the kitchen, his passion for roller coasters, comedy movies, great salsa, flying and the beach will be remembered by all. He was devoted to his family, creating lasting memories with his wife of 8 years and their treasured Chug, Pirate, in their Flower Mound home where Tom enjoyed cooking, gardening and home improvement. Together, they loved traveling to Mexico and enjoying time outdoors, They attended St. Phillips Catholic Church, and Tom modeled a quiet and sincere faith in God.
Tom’s best known for his loyalty, kindness and sense of humor. Friends and family remark on his commitment to his relationships, his caring heart, and the selflessness that he brought to his family, friends and colleagues. He was always willing to help, to hang with the kids, and to spare controversy in service of a peaceful loving existence.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Murphy and survived by his immediate family; Patricia, Amy, Loren, Katie, James, Kishore, Shannon and Pirate and beloved nieces and nephews (Kevin, Travis, Priya, Aria, Maya, Kiran).
Tom’s memorial service is at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, TX on Jul 19th from 3-5 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date at Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, Florida and he will eventually be laid to rest aside his father and grandparents at Flint Hill Cemetery in Vienna, Virginia.
