Varghese Mammoottil Oommen

Varghese M. Oommen (Babu) of Carrollton, TX, passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 77. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Suseela; his children, Binu (and his wife, Preetha), Biji (and her husband, Wesley); and grandchildren, Cassidy and Olivia.

Babu grew up in Thalavady, Kerala and hails from the Kochumamootil family. He was the fifth child of late. M. P. Oommen and late Aleyammma Oommen. He spent much of his early years with his older sister, Sucy, and his younger brother, Ani, picking mangoes off the tree, fishing, going to school, and living life together. He is preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, three siblings, two brothers-in-law, and multiple friends whom he loved dearly. He will be missed by his siblings, Thankamma, Achenkunju, Manu, Kunju, his sisters and brothers in law, and their families.

Babu completed his education in Kerala, moved to Muscat, then to Dubai and eventually migrated to USA in 1994. After many years of working in the US, he was able to take his retirement from DFW airport. He was a devoted member of the Marthoma Church of Dallas, Farmers Branch (Luna church). He lived a prayerful life and instilled in his children the love and importance of family prayer and God.

After retirement, Babu enjoyed watching his tv shows and didn’t like to miss Wheel of Fortune. He watched sports on TV, didn’t miss a single World Cup soccer match, and as a Kuttanadan, he counted the ‘vallamkalli’ (boat races) among his favorites. He cherished any time that he could spend and visit with his children and grandchildren. He also loved to visit his siblings and talk to them until they left for eternity. He enjoyed going to the Luna church for services and to visit his church family but had to give it up due to his health. He will be remembered for his jovial nature, his generosity and love for his family and friends. He loved spending time with his family, his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He maintained friendships that have lasted a lifetime, even from his childhood. Every time he went to Kerala on vacation, he visited every friend and relative. Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing Babu will never forget his hospitality, and his giving selfless nature. He was called "candy appachen" or “candy uncle” by almost everyone, both young and old, because he would give out candy from his pockets and hand it to anyone he met. Moreover, he was a devoted and loving husband, an affectionate father and father-in-law and a wonderful, loving grandparent. He will be missed dearly by everyone.

His legacy of love and kindness shall continue to shine through the lives he touched.
