Aubrey lived a remarkable 83 years filled with courage, generosity, and wisdom. There’s no doubt in my mind that anyone who spent even a short afternoon with Aubrey walked away brighter, wiser, and often laughing. He was strong, loving, brave, brilliant, and unfailingly generous. You can’t sum up a man this amazing with mere words, but it's surely a good place to start. Aubrey accomplished so very much.
After 23 1/2 years serving our nation in the US Army–including two tours in Vietnam–he dedicated himself to education, achieving an astounding eight degrees, the pinnacle being his PhD. Aubrey never hesitated to use his strength to serve, standing strong beside fellow veterans as he patiently guided them through paperwork and processes, tirelessly advocating for the benefits they had earned. When those efforts bore fruit, seeing the smiles of relief and gratitude from veterans was the only reward Aubrey ever needed.
It was a true reflection of his generous, brilliant spirit.
Aubrey was a man of profound honesty and genuineness, values we should all strive to mirror. In his faith, he stood steadfast, embodying the conviction found in 2 Timothy 1 :12, assured in his belief that he had entrusted all to a higher power.
While we say goodbye today, I’m reminded of the power of prayer, an important cornerstone in Aubrey's life, and something he encouraged in everyone. Each prayer whispered is heard by God, never lost.
So, let's remember to pray for eachother, continuing the legacy of kindness and faith Aubrey held dear. In his memory, let us today be encouraged by his unfailing love and example, remembering that every moment shared was a gift.
A Service will be held at 10am on Monday March 31st at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
