Audrey Fern Rummel

May 8, 1935 - November 23, 2017

Audrey Rummel, born May 8, 1935 in Albuquerque New Mexico, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully in her sleep, on Thursday morning, November 23, 2017. Audrey graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1952. Then, three years later, in 1955 she graduated from Blue Mountain College, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, with her BS. In 1977 she earned her Master’s in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She was in education for thirty three years, teaching and serving in many different capacities ranging from 3rd grade through college. Audrey also served for eight years as Copperas Cove’s first woman principal. Her time as principal was served at Halstead Elementary School. Though she retired from education, in 1986, she continued to serve, this time in the capacity of Volunteer Chaplin at the Gatesville Woman’s Correctional Facility and as Administrator for the Gatesville Christian Academy. Audrey faithfully served and attended First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many. Audrey would always lend a listening ear and offer words of comfort, compassion and wisdom. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Vera Evans, her sister Thelma Evans, and brother John Clayton Evans. She is survived by her husband, of 59 years, Gus; her children, LeVera Braswell, of Killeen, TammyFern and her husband Chris Reininger of Hutto, Lanny Rummel of Canyon Lake , and Stanley Rummel of Liberty Hill; her grandchildren, Rachael and her husband Mercy, Cody, Cory, and Cacy; great grandchildren, Ethan, Eric, Kate, and Nina.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 28, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Copperas Cove on Wednesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:00 am followed by a grave side service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen at 12:00 noon.
