

A celebration of life for Benton Biggs Thompson, age 93 of Copperas Cove, Texas will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Copperas Cove, Texas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM -10:00 AM at the funeral home on Monday July 28, 2014. A graveside committal will immediately following at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Thompson passed away at the Hill County Nursing Home, Copperas Cove, Texas at 12:06 PM, July 19, 2014 after a long illness.
Mr. Thompson was born on June 08, 1921 in Brandon, Texas to John Marvin and Goldie Thompson. His childhood years were spent in Hillsboro, Texas before entering the US Army on June 13, 1939 in Dallas, Texas. He was initially assigned to Fort Clark, Del Rio, Texas and later joined the corps cadre for formation of the 91st Infantry Division at Medford, Oregon. He served with the 91st until conclusion of World war II. He also served during the Korean Conflict and retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service at Fort Hood, Texas. After his military service Mr. Thompson served in positions with civil service at Fort Hood, Texas and with the city of Copperas Cove before he retired completely.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed and mastered Dominos, Ping Pong, Bowling and horseshoes. He was full of life and he and his wife always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at family functions.
Proceeding him in death was his wife of 63 years, Edith May Thompson, daughter, Linda Gail Eastman, son, Benton Biggs (Benny) Thompson Jr., and grandson Benton Scott (Scotty) Weidinger.
Surviving Mr. Thompson are daughters; Cynthia Ann (Cindy) and Jasper W. Johnson Jr. of Copperas Cove, Glenda Darlene (Dee) and Bob Cole of Benton, LA., Delma Marie (Skeeter) and Thomas Wade of Greenville, Ark., Belinda Lynn (Gidget) and Mark Coburn of Cedar Park, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 16 Great grandchildren.
The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Susan Lewis and Rita Anderson for their loving care and concern for Benton during the last six years of his life and also the administration and staff of Hill Country Nursing Facility.
