

Carmen was born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, on November 2, 1951, the daughter of the late Pedro Alicea Cotto and Lydia Ester Pagan Santiago. She pursued a career as a caregiver to the ill and the elderly for over 30 years. Upon retiring, she committed the last 10 years of her life to caring for children in various day cares and church nurseries within the Killeen community. Carmen worshiped under the ministry of Pastor Alvin Ponce De Leon at Iglesia Cristiana Uncion y Poder. She was a devoted and caring servant of the Lord, faithfully committing her energy, time, and passion in service to her local community and church home. A devout student of the Bible, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of completing her Bachelor's Degree in Theological Studies from Destiny Bible University in May 2014.
She was blessed with five children that cherished her dearly. She married the love of her life, Jose Rene Perez, on June 24, 1989 in Lawton, Ok. Carmen raised her children with humility, discipline, and a lot of love. She taught them the value of family, commitment, importance of hard work and the priceless significance of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Carmen is survived by her husband of 26 years, Jose R Perez of the home; Five children: Javier Santiago (Venessa) of San Marcos; Jacob Frias (Jessica) of Atlanta; Nahir Henry (Darian) of Atlanta; Lennin Frias of Colorado Springs; Alex Santiago (Tanya) of Burrton, Nine grandchildren: Jacob M. Frias, Jayden Frias, and Jade Frias of Atlanta; Alaana Henry, Alyssa Henry, and Aaliyah Henry of Atlanta; Alex Santiago, Anthony Santiago and Andre Santiago of Burrton. Carmen is also survived by a host of many other family members and close friends she loved dearly.
She will be honored with a celebration of life ceremony at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Copperas Cove on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Her burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Copperas Cove with small reception to follow.
