

Coley was born July 24, 1946 in Lampasas, Texas to Nevet John Howell and Agnes (Hunt) Howell.
He graduated from Killeen High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University. He later received his Masters degree in Secondary Education from Tarleton State University. He also received his Counseling Certification and his Mid-management certification.
Coley began teaching science at Lampasas High School in 1968 and remained there until 1979. In 1979 he became the part time Principal at Evant High School until 1981 when he came to Copperas Cove ISD. While serving in the Copperas Cove Independent School District, he was a counselor; Assistant Principal at Copperas Cove High School and Principal at Hettie Halstead Elementary School until his retirement in 2003.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Howell of Copperas Cove; a son, John-Louis Howell of Goldsboro, NC; a daughter, Dee Dee Mims of New Braunfels; a brother, David Hunt Howell and a sister, Betty Ann Howell Graef; four grandchildren, Lacee Belle Mims, Emerson Le Paul and Weston Le Howell and Madi Warren.
The Howell family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 with rosary being recited at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Chris Downey as celebrant. Interment services will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
